Is desire inherent to architecture? Those who see their work realized are often left longing to fundamentally reshape their projects, client demands, and budgets. On the other hand, in light of the climate crisis, the desire never to build again may seem highly desirable. From changes in details, materials, spaces, and functions to unexplored typologies, unbuilt projects, unsigned contracts, lost commissions, bureaucratic hurdles, and new forms of architectural production – there is always something left to be desired. What do these gaps, these unfulfilled desires, reveal? Where do the limits of our profession lie? And when does something find its purpose precisely in its absence?
Through a festival featuring an exhibition, a symposium, and a publication, we seek to examine the desires that are produced by architectural practices today. We invite you to be part of this exploration!
