Content

The university course includes the following content:

  • Development and design of microcredentials and microdegrees
  • Strategies for implementation within degree programmes
  • Utilisation of synergies between regular degree programmes and continuing education
  • Quality management and evaluation

Forms of teaching and learning

The university course is designed as a microcredential and consists of three stages that systematically guide participants from the initial idea to implementation:

1. Online stage: In the online stage, participants develop the fundamentals of their project: a draft idea that summarises their initial brainstorming for a microcredential. This self-learning phase offers maximum flexibility and is supported either with a MOOC, synchronous webinars or freely available open educational resources (OER).

In forums and weekly retrospectives, participants can exchange ideas with others, get feedback and refine their ideas.

2. In-person stage: In the in-person stage, participants develop their idea further. Through a mixture of interactive discussions, group work and keynote speeches, they can benefit from a practical and inspiring learning environment. With the aid of examples of good and best practices, participants can see how successful microcredentials are designed and turn their vision into reality.

3. Transfer stage: In the final transfer stage, participants fully flesh out their proposed curriculum, create accompanying documents and make their microcredential ready for implementation.

This three-stage teaching and learning arrangement offers participants the opportunity to design a microcredential concept specifically for their subject area – from the initial idea to a complete curriculum along with supporting documents.

6 good reasons to participate

  • You will learn about innovative educational approaches with future-oriented learning formats and methods.
  • You will network with colleagues and experts from various disciplines.
  • You will promote your own continuing education and adapt your teaching skills to the changing educational landscape.
  • You will design your own microcredential – practical and geared to your needs.
  • You will be able to design flexible and future-oriented university education.
  • You will thus contribute to the reputation of your university/post-secondary educational institution as a modern hub for high-quality education.

Upon completion of the university course,

you will not only have the theoretical knowledge to design microcredentials, but also the practical and strategic skills to implement them effectively in a university or other post-secondary educational context.
