Programming in MATLAB: Fundamental Concepts

MATLAB is a modern and diverse programming language with a wide range of applications in industry, research and teaching. MATLAB is a versatile language that can be used to efficiently resolve problems without much overhead and offers various tools. Its applications range from the simple graphical representation of data to complex simulations.

After completing the course "Programming in MATLAB: Fundamental Concepts", you will have mastered the fundamentals of the MATLAB programming language and will be able to practically apply this language in your field of work.

Content

You learn the basic principles for working with  MATLAB:
  • Creating programs (scripts, functions)
  • Basic commands and operators
  • Program structures, decision making, looping
  • Working with matricies, indexing, logical indexing (masks)
  • Graphical representations
  • Working with polynomials
  • Solving systems of linear equations
  • Fitting datasets (linear and non-linear problems)
  • Integration, finding zeros of functions, anonymous functions)
You conduct practical exercises to work with all content .

Target Groups and Admission Requirements

The course has been designed for
  • Skilled personnel who would like to perform programming tasks or numerical simulations with MATLAB.
  • People who need to learn a programming language to help them quickly and efficiently solve their problems.
To participate in this course, you require basic knowledge of mathematics and programming.

Dates and Deadlines

Next course: Autumn 2024

Quick Facts

  • Duration: 4 days, half-days
  • Certificate: Confirmation of participation
  • Language of instruction: German
Upon request, support in English can be offered.
  • Participation fees: 690 € (VAT free) including access to the software package MatlabTutor, course materials and drinks during the breaks
  • Number of participants: at most 14
  • Course location: TU Graz
  • Course times: each day from 2 to 6 p.m.

The Educational Software “MatlabTutor”

During the course, you will work with the educational software “MatlabTutor”, which was developed at TU Graz and has been used successfully for several years in the "Physics" and "Technical Physics" degree programmes. The software provides a development environment for MATLAB. This includes numerous examples and their solutions. You also have access to the MATLAB help system and course-specific documents.

You can use the software on your own computer via client software for up to 3 months after the course in order to practice what you have learned with sample exercises.

Why you should Attend this Course

  • because you can learn how to work practically with MATLAB by performing defined tasks,
  • because you can use the educational software "MatlabTutor", which was developed at TU Graz, during the course and for up to 3 months afterward and
  • because you will be carefully supervised by two trainers from the Institute for Theoretical Physics.
