PAULI

PAULI organises the annual qualification for Austria’s representative at the international physics competition PLANCKS*. The association comprises former participants who design challenging, creative and research-oriented competitions inspired by current research topics. Their goal is not only to find the best teams, but above all to spark enthusiasm for physics and current research topics.

*PLANCKS (Physics League Across Numerous Countries for Kick-ass Students) is a challenging annual international theoretical physics competition for student teams. Undergraduate and master’s students compete in teams of three or four and solve complex theoretical physics problems under competitive conditions. The competition is considered a kind of Olympiad for physics students: Each participating country sends its best teams to the international final, which takes place every year at a different university around the world.

Profile

  • Name: PAULI
  • Tasks: Organisation of the national qualification round for the international physics competition PLANCKS
  • Contact:
  • Target group: Austrian Bachelor's and Master's students in Physics

I have participated in the international PLANCKS competition five times; it allowed me to not only expand my knowledge of physics way beyond my degree programme but also to make friends that I still keep in touch with. The positive memories and experiences we had motivated us to found PAULI as a way to give many more students the opportunity to experience theoretical physics in a challenging, motivating and entertaining way. PLANCKS was a real asset to my academic career: The skills and insights I gained there have stayed with me ever since.
