Pre-processing

The computational grids for CFD calculations are mostly generated with tools developed Paul Pieringer, former PhD student at the nstitute. The idea for building a grid is to set up a mechanical vibration model where the grid nodes interact as if connected with springs and the grid nodes themselves are mass points. This procedure can be applied to generate structured grids for calculating the flow around linear turbine and compressor cascades with periodic O-type or C-type grids. Furthermore, it can be used to set up grids for tip-leakage simulations, where the region between the blade and shroud can be meshed. Also endwall contouring is made possible using method which allows any parametrization method. The program is very powerful and it has an easy to use GUI, based on the portable C++ WXWindows library, so it can be used on all Win32 and UNIX platforms.
