The Fair-AI group is scientifically led by Dr. Dominik Kowald and is a cross-institutional group between ISDS and the Know-Center. Fair-AI has the goal to develop fair algorithms and evaluation methods that minimize the discrimination risk of AI. Fair-AI aims to support users in their self-determined, critical, and informed decision making and interaction with AI-based systems (e.g., decision support and recommender systems). Another goal of Fair-AI is to ensure that ethical principles, including fairness, accountability, reproducibility, and transparency, are taken into account when AI application are researched. The main three research areas of the Fair-AI group are (i) recommender systems, (ii) fairness, accountability, and transparency in AI, and (iii) evaluation of AI-based systems.
