Prof. Thomas Weichhart: “Treating the granuloma in sarcoidosis – from mice to man”

Type

  • Vortrag

Topic

  • Universität

In this lecture, Thomas Weichhart will discuss how studying a mouse model of spontaneous granuloma formation led to the discovery of a key pathogenetic mechanisms in sarcoidosis, a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by granulomas in the lungs, skin, or heart. By dissecting macrophage-driven processes, the lab uncovered metabolic pathways that are active in progressive forms of the disease. These insights guided the development of a targeted treatment strategy, culminating in a successful clinical trial. This translational approach illustrates how basic immunological studies in mice can inform novel, effective therapies for human diseases.
