International Baccalaureate (IB)

Admission with International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)

An IB is a secondary school leaving certificate issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). It serves as proof of the general university entrance qualification. The IB is considered a non-Austrian school leaving certificate (even if the exams have been taken at a school in Austria), but it is considered equivalent and therefore no nostrification is necessary, provided that certain criteria are fulfilled.

Criteria for recognition of an IB

  • You have to have at least 24 points out of six subjects.
    If you can't reach the minimum points of 24, you won't get an IB Diploma but an IB Certificate. It's not possible to be admitted at TU Graz with an IB Certificate.
  • One foreign language and mathematics need to be among the subjects.
  • 3 of the 6 subjects need to have been passed in Higher Level (HL), the rest in Standard Level (SL).
  • German knowledge has to be proved. If you have a grade of German in your IB (except German ab initio SL) it can be accepted as sufficient proof of German knowlege.
