Major Embedded and Automotive Systems

In the Major Embedded and Automotive Systems, you will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for developing electronics, hardware and software for embedded systems – with a special focus on vehicle technologies. You will learn to independently design, implement and analyse complex systems in areas such as automation, communication and signal processing. The combination of theory and practical laboratory exercises will prepare you for the challenges of industry and research.

The Embedded and Automotive Systems major covers the following areas:

  • Electronics: Development of electronic systems, electromagnetic compatibility, sensors and actuators for vehicles
  • Embedded Hardware: Processor architectures, microcontroller design, hardware-software co-design and real-time systems
  • Embedded Software: Real-time operating systems, vehicle software, distributed systems and digital signal processing
  • Measurement and Engineering: Electronic sensor technology, measuring systems, electric drives and innovative vehicle concepts
  • Automation, Control, and Communication: Process automation, control engineering, measurement technology and communication systems for real-time applications
  • Software Development and Services: Quality management, design principles, IT services and fault-tolerant systems

Embedded and Automotive Systems Research

Research Areas

The Institute of Technical Informatics and Institute of Electrical Measurement and Sensor Systems are working on powerful and future-proof computer systems for vehicles, industrial plants, digital services, etc. A particular focus is on reliable hardware/software systems consisting of flexible microprocessors, modular and maintainable system software, and robust communication in networked systems. Another focus is on the development of high-precision sensors and intelligent signal processing.

Together, the institutes impart comprehensive expertise in computer science, sensor technology and measurement technology to prepare students for the realisation of safe, networked and efficient embedded systems for a wide range of application domains, e.g. IoT, automotive, robotics, etc.
