Admission to Bachelor's Degree Programmes

For admission to a bachelor’s degree programmes you have to meet the following requirements.

General University Entrance Qualification

You can provide proof of the general university entrance qualification with one of the following certificates:

  • an Austrian school leaving certifi­cate, e.g. a Matura certificate from a general education secondary school (AHS), Higher Technical Institute (HTL), Academy for Commercial Studies (HAK), federal secondary school (Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium, or BORG) or a TVE diploma examination certificate;
    or
  • a university entrance qualification certificate, see university entrance qualification exam;
    or
  • a foreign school leaving certifi­cate recognised in Austria, in German: nostrifiziertes ausländisches Reifezeugnis;
    or
  • a notice of admission from the Rector of TU Graz (for admission of international students);
    or
  • a certificate for the completion of a degree programme lasting at least three years at a recognised Austrian or foreign post-secondary educational institution

Special University Entrance Qualification

For certain bachelor’s degree programmes at TU Graz, you must complete additional examinations before admission to the degree programme or supplementary examinations during the degree programme, depending on your school leaving certifi­cate. Knowledge of the German Language

If German is not your native language, you must provide proof of your knowledge of German with a certificate or through a supplementary examination before admission to the degree programme.

Admission to Master's Degree Programmes

Admission to Doctoral Programmes

For admission to a doctoral programme at TU Graz, you must fulfil the requirements according to the Curriculum for the Doctoral Programme in Technical Sciences or the Curriculum for the Doctoral Programme in Natural Sciences.

The Rectorate of TU Graz will decide whether the degree programme you have completed will be recognised for admission to the doctoral programme or whether you must fulfil supplementary curricular requirements, after you have applied for admission to a degree programme at the TU Graz Registrar's Office.

Requirements for Doctoral Programmes

For admission to a doctoral programme at TU Graz, you must fulfil one of the following requirements according to the Curriculum:

  • completion of a subject-related diploma or master’s programme in engineering sciences or natural sciences at a university or
  • completion of another degree programme at a recognised Austrian or foreign post-secondary educational institution that is equivalent to the aforementioned degree programmes or
  • completion of a degree programme at a recognised Austrian or foreign post-secondary educational institution in combination with supplementary curricular requirements or
  • only in exceptional cases under very restrictive conditions: completion of a subject-related bachelor’s programme.
