Tenure Track Professor of Software Engineering (m/f/d)

We are looking for a candidate with proven scientific expertise in the field of Software Engineering. 

Job Description

The following areas are of particular interest:

  • AI for Software Engineering and vice versa
  • Dependability and Safety of Software
  • Software Analysis and Evolution
  • Software Testing
  • Requirements Engineering

The successful candidate will cover one of these fields or any other field in Software Engineering that complements the existing strengths in the department. The professorship will be part of the  Institute of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence , which is an internationally highly visible research environment with more than 60 researchers in Software Engineering.

The Institute is concerned with the theoretical, practical and applied aspects of software engineering. Research lies in the field of intelligent systems, formal verification and systematic testing of software, artificial intelligence, requirements engineering, recommender systems, optimization of industrial problems, game theory, agile software development processes, computer languages, computer science education, management of software development projects (including knowledge management), software development for and on smartphones and tablets, and intelligent autonomous robots. Furthermore, the institute deals with the teaching of artificial intelligence in schools. 

The new professor will complement the existing strengths in the department, will build an internationally visible group, and will be an engaged teacher in the Computer Science programs at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD level, and will actively participate in academic self-administration. 

At Graz University of Technology, undergraduate courses are taught in German or English and graduate courses are taught in English.

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 76,308.40 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.

Applicants should have a strong command of the English language, both written and spoken, to be able to effectively represent the field internationally, and they must also be willing to learn German if they do not already know the language.

The advertised position is a tenure-track career position. After the conclusion of a qualification agreement, the job holder is appointed as an Assistant Professor. After a positive evaluation of the qualification agreement, the position will be turned into a permanent position as an Associate Professor. After a further competitive procedure, a promotion to a Full Professor is possible.

The position will be paid according to the collective agreement for employees of Austrian universities, stipulating an initial gross annual salary that includes medical and retirement insurance.

Hearings

The hearings for the professorship will take place in the week of 9th February 2026. Candidates should be available for interviews in this period.
