The prize is awarded every year to a maximum of three teachers / teaching teams who demonstrate an outstanding level of commitment, an excellent didactic concept and above all who succeed in motivating their students in their awardec courses.
The award-winning courses are announced and honoured at a festive event. Prize money of 3,000 euros (gross) will be awarded for each of the three prizes. In addition, the courses are nominated for the Ars docendi (National Prize for Excellence in Teaching, in German: Ars docendi - Staatspreis für exzellente Lehre).
In addition to TU Graz, the Styrian Chamber of Labour (Arbeiterkammer Steiermark), the Styrian Federation of Industry, alumniTUGraz 1887 and individual graduates via alumniTUGraz 1887 donate the Prize for Excellence in Teaching at TU Graz and promote outstanding achievements in the field of teaching with their contribution.

Courses given by both internal and external teachers at TU Graz can be nominated for the prize. Students who have attended the course, deans of studies and student representatives of TU Graz can nominate teachers.
A committee chooses the excellent courses based on didactic concepts, course descriptions, practical implementation of the didactic concept, results of the course evaluation and examination results. The membership of the jury is as follows:
