Grants for Students

Students in Austria can apply for financial support. Here you can find an overview of the grants for which you can apply.

Family Allowance

Austrian students are entitled to a family allowance until they are 24 or 25 years of age and if they fulfil certain prerequisites.
You can find information on prerequisites, applications, and the amount of family allowance on the Family allowance for students page (in German) at help.gv.at.

Housing Benefit

Students with no or low family income can apply for housing benefit from the Province of Styria. You can calculate the housing benefit you would expect to receive using the housing benefit calculator (in German: Wohnbeihilferechner) of the Province of Styria. You can find more information on applications and the granting of housing benefit on the website of the Department of Housing Benefit (in German: Referats für Wohnbeihilfe).

Study Grant

Students who fulfil certain prerequisites are entitled to a state study grant pursuant to the Austrian Student Support Act (in German: Studienförderungsgesetz).

Employed students and students who were previously employed can obtain a maintenance grant or a scholarship for the completion of studies instead of a study grant.

Maintenance grant

Maintenance grants are a special form of study grants. Students who have been financially independent for at least 48 months before or during their degree programme as a result of a job can apply for a maintenance grant.

Scholarship for the completion of studies

Scholarships for the completion of studies are a special form of study grants. Employed students who give up their job when they are in the final stage of completing their degree programme can apply for a scholarship for the completion of studies.

Grants from the Austrian Student Union

Student canteen allowance

Students at TU Graz who fulfil certain prerequisites can obtain a student canteen allowance of 320 Euro per semester. This is financed by the Province of Styria and applied for via the Austrian Student Union at TU Graz, or HTU Graz.

Student canteen stamp

The student canteen stamp is a form of support available to all students and provided by the HTU Graz. With the student canteen stamp, you receive a discount on set menus in participating canteens. You can find more information on the page for the student canteen stamp of the HTU Graz.

Support from the HTU Graz Social Fund

Any students with financial problems who fulfil certain prerequisites can apply for financial support from the HTU Graz Social Fund. You can find more information and the application form on the page for support from the Social Fund of the HTU Graz.
