The interim management of the Institute is being handled alternately by the management team consisting of Assoc. Prof. Cornelia Lex, Assoc. Prof. Mario Hirz, and Assoc. Prof. Arno Eichberger.

Relocation to the newly built FSI building on campus Inffeldgasse.

Transition to independent Institute of Automotive Engineering (FTG).
It initially resides provisionally on the upper floor of the Joanneum Research in Graz Steyrergasse, developed rapidly and becomes a member of the donated by MAGNA [FSI].

Seperation of Automotive Engineering Graz (FTG) as an independent working area from the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics (IVT) at Graz University of Technology.
Appointing of Prof. Wolfgang Hirschberg as Head of Vehicle Technology at the same time as his appointment as Scientific Director of the Competence Center - The Virtual Vehicle.
