TU Graz to Launch Austria’s First Extension Programme in Artificial Intelligence in Autumn 2025

The topic of AI is becoming increasingly relevant for more and more research and professional fields, including technology and science. In order to provide students and graduates with the appropriate skills in dealing with AI for their careers, Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) will be the first Austrian university to offer an English-language extension programme in this subject area from autumn 2025: Artificial Intelligence Engineering (AIE). This is an engineering programme that complements an underlying master’s degree programme. Comprising two semesters (34 ECTS), it enables students to acquire the basics of computer science and AI and to apply modern AI methods to their specialist field.
Valuable additional qualification
The extension programme is aimed at students and graduates of TU Graz Master's programmes who have not yet immersed themselves in the topic of AI in their regular studies - students of the Master's programmes in Computer Science, Information and Computer Engineering and Software Engineering and Management are therefore excluded. Graduates from other universities can also register for the programme. The prerequisite in these cases is a Master's degree in engineering or natural sciences.
The extension programme is offered at the Faculty of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a certificate from TU Graz which they can include in their CV as an additional qualification, for example.
The programme focuses on the following subject areas: programming (Python), data structures and algorithms, machine learning and pattern recognition, neural networks and deep learning, reinforcement learning, ethical, legal and social aspects of AI and their practical application.
Ideally equipped for the world of work or research
“Whether in industry, logistics, mobility, plant control systems, service chatbots or assistance systems, the importance of AI is increasing in more and more business and scientific fields,” says Stefan Vorbach, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at TU Graz. “It is therefore important for us to provide students and graduates with the tools they need to enter the world of work or research in the best possible way, in addition to the specialist knowledge of their main degree programme. Thanks to the extensive AI expertise at TU Graz, we can offer all participants a well-founded and valuable additional education with the new Artificial Intelligence Engineering extension programme.”
