• Doctors’ emergency service phone number: 141. This service is responsible when all other doctors are not on duty:
  weekdays from 7 pm to 7 am, weekends and holidays 24-hour service.  
• Health insurance is compulsory in Austria.
• It is possible to co-insure other members of your family too.
• For their residence title, students from third countries require health insurance that will cover all risks.
• Health insurance providers are called "Kassen".
• The majority of antibiotics is only available on prescription; there is a prescription fee.
• When consulting a private doctor (i.e. doctors that do not have a direct contract with your health insurance provider) be prepared for a co-pay.
• If you want to see a specialist, you need a referral letter (issued by your GP).
• You are entitled to a free health check-up once a year.

• Always take your incurance card (E-Card) with you when consulting a doctor. If you don’t have one, you will have to pay a deposit that will be reimbursed when you present your health insurance card.  
• If you fall ill, please inform your superior at once (either at the outset of or prior to your working hours. Should he or she not be available, please call the secretary’s office.
• Marginal employment at TU Graz does not include registration for health insurance.  
• Smoking is prohibited in all public spaces and in many restaurants, bars and cafés too. In Austria, it is prohibited to take drugs such as Marihuana, designer drugs, etc.
