What you Need to Know
- average rent for accommodation: 12 EUR per m²
- average purchase price: 3.200 EUR per m²
- total costs = rent + maintenance costs + heating + electricity + gas costs (if applicable)
- deposit: normally 3 months’ gross rent
- fee for estate agent: up to 3 months’ rent
- housing benefit if certain conditions are met
- It is recommended to take out household insurance
- Get more information about vacant accommodation / property in the daily newspapers, at estate agencies, on various internet sites or City of Graz
Please Note
- You must register your domicile at the relevant registry office within 3 days after moving into your accommodation in Austria:

- If you use radio or television sets at your accommodation, you need to register those as well: GIS – Licence Fee Information Service
- You should not pay any commission, deposits or advance payments until you have signed either a tenancy agreement or a sales contract.
- Please pay attention to the different lengths of term, conditions and notice periods when you sign a tenancy agreement.
- When applying for an entry or residence title, you will require proof of accommodation in the form of a rental contract or a tenancy agreement (Wohnrechtsvereinbarung).
