UNSITTICH - Universal Split-Hopkinson testing machine

The test bench “UNSITTICH” (Universal Split-Hopkinson testing machine) allows the dynamic characterization of material samples at strain rates between roughly 150 /s to 3000 /s. The achievable strain rates depend on the material to be tested in combination with the specimen geometry. Knowledge of the material behaviour at higher loading velocities is essential in areas such as vehicle safety, aerospace, sports equipment and many other fields of application.

In addition to the actual measurements, high speed images of the specimen are taken during the test. Based on these images, the local strain distribution can be determined using DIC (Digital Image Correlation).
