Teaching, research and further education in the field of forming and tool technologies
The Institute for Tools and Forming was founded in July 2004 and was led by Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralf Kolleck until the end of 2015.
His successor is Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. techn. Christof Sommitsch as the head of the institute. In 2017, the institute was merged with the institute of Material Science and Welding and out of them the Institute of Material Science, Joining and Forming with the research group Tools and forming was created.
Research activities at the T&F:
- Optimization of forming processes and forming tools
- Development and improvement of tool systems
- A special emphasis is placed on design and simulation in forming technologies
- Optimization of gioning and cutting technologies
- Examination of a possible use of new materials
- Forming and further operations
- Forming technologies – emphasis on automotive car bodies
