From course registrations to people searches and research data to student statistics: university daily life as we know it would be unimaginable without web-based campus management. TU Graz took on a pioneering role when it became the first university in the German-speaking area in 1998 to introduce CAMPUSonline – which it had developed itself. This software allowed all data for teaching, research and administrative services to be stored in a central database, queried and edited. All members of the University – students, staff and graduates – have personalised access to information relevant for them independent of time and place.

What began with three employees is today a department of the IT Services of TU Graz employing some 100 persons and thus one of the most successful and enduring cooperation projects of TU Graz. In the meantime, in addition to TU Graz, 38 other universities in Austria and Germany use CAMPUSonline. The University of Graz, the University of Cologne, TU München, the Med Uni Wien, a number of universities of the arts and teacher training colleges and RWTH Aachen University count among the customers of this TU Graz export. Altogether, CAMPUSonline is available to some 500,000 students and 140,000 teaching staff daily in a form adapted to each particular university.
CAMPUSonline is the only campus-management system in the German-speaking area with a university background. As a cooperation project of TU Graz, CAMPUSonline knows the needs of how a university operates first hand. At the same time CAMPUSonline has a network booster effect. The CAMPUSonline universities meet twice a year to exchange information and knowledge in the network and to develop the system further together. Currently, an update to the most recent version of the system is in preparation so that – thanks to responsive design – it can be used consistently on mobile end devices.
