Structures 1 Winter Term 2017/2018

In teams of 3 to 4 people, the students have closely examined a selected building. A replica of the main structure as a model at a given scale was intended to deepen the understanding of its structural system. The focus of the analysis was on the structural elements used and the static system.

Structures 2 Summer Term 2017

The topic of the summer semester course was to design a truss bridge spanning 25 meters between two buildings. The truss construction allows a very favorable utilization of the material strengths. Here, the material can be arranged according to the flow of forces and the forces actually occurring are measured. The load model was built at 1:10 scale from any type of wood or wood materials. The model was loaded in a so-called 4-point bending test until breakage. The goal was to develop a framework with a maximum favorable ratio of low dead weight to high load capacity. The design and construction were parts of the evaluation.
