Birgit Androschin is project assistant and associate lecturer at the Institute of Architectural Theory, Art History and Cultural Studies. She studied art history at the University of Graz as well as architecture at the University of Innsbruck and the Ecole in Paris (École d´architecture de la Villette). Alongside her teaching and research activities, she has worked as a freelance architecture guide since 1998. She has also worked in various architectural practices in Bolzano, Innsbruck, and Graz. In her research she focuses on Buddhist architecture in Western Himalaya.   

Carmen Auer has been project assistant at Graz University of Technology since 2002 and associate lecturer at the Institute of Architectural Theory, Art History and Cultural Studies since 2012. The main emphasis of her work lies on building research and building documentation, revitalization and monument preservation, as well as “Buddhist Architecture in Western Himalaya”. Anna Maria Bagaric studied architecture at Graz University of Technology. In her master’s thesis she concentrated on the creation of a new public cultural space located in the fabric of a small town. Her research investigates public urban spaces and their impact on quality of residency in a town, encouraging the development of community or energy efficiency. She has been university assistant at the Institute of Urbanism since 2019.

Sabine Bauer has been university assistant at the Institute of Urbanism since 2019, focusing on the research areas of active mobility, public space design, and development planning in peri-urban areas. From 2010 to 2019 she worked for Sisyphus publishing house on a freelance basis, responsible for book layouts and cover designs. She worked for traffic planning office verkehrplus – Prognose, Planung und Strategieberatung GmbH.

Martin Boleš has been university assistant at the Institute of Architecture Technology since 2019. He studied architecture in Bratislava, Lisbon, Graz, and Copenhagen. He worked for various architectural practices in Switzerland, Germany, and Denmark, such as COBE and Herzog & de Meuron. In 2017, his work as a freelance architect secured his nomination for the Dušan Jurkovič architecture prize and led to his entry in the 2016/17 Slovakian architecture year book.

Carlotta Bonura has been university assistant at the Institute of Spatial Design since 2020. She studied architecture at IUAV Venice and at Graz University of Technology. She was a member of the collective kleinraum. and of the editorial team at architecture magazine schauraum. She also worked at architectural practices Flores&Prats (Barcelona) and Saiko Architektur (Graz). Between 2017 and 2019, she worked as prop assistant for various productions at the theatre Schauspielhaus Graz. Since 2018, she has been a freelance set and costume designer, and, together with other artists, founded cultural association OAG Kulturverein which plays an active role in Graz’s cultural scene. She is participating in the Graz Year of Culture 2020 with the project Grazotopia.

Stephan Brugger has been university assistant at the Institute of Architecture Technology since 2019 and holds the endowed chair for timber construction. He studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and, in 2010, received a KUWI scholarship at the Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul. Between 2012 and 2019, he worked as project manager at Dietger Wissounig Architekten. In 2019, he established the architectural practice NOW Architektur ZT together with Eva Maria Hierzer.

Julian Brües has been university assistant at the Institute of Spatial Design since March 2020. During and after completing his architecture degree at Graz University of Technology and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences he worked at Lederer Ragnasdóttir Oei (Stuttgart), JOM Architekten, Furrer Jud Architekten (both in Zurich), and PPAG (Vienna).

Nayari Castillo-Rutz is an independent artist, curator, and project manager. She studied media art and design (MFA) at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Her research and teaching activities focus on location-specific public installations and their influence on perception through interventions that change the dynamic of a place. She is particularly interested in participation, temporary architecture, spatial experiments, and all related areas of design in public space. She is currently university research assistant at the Institute of Spatial Design and is part of the research team for the EU projects “MAST” (https://mastmodule.eu/) and “Iterations” (https://iterations.space/).

Petra Eckhard has been senior scientist and director of GAM.Lab at the Faculty of Architecture at Graz University of Technology since 2018. She studied American literature and cultural studies as well as media studies in Graz, Bern, and New York. In her dissertation, Chronotopes of the Uncanny (2011, transcript), she focused on the literary construction of uncanny urban spaces in postmodernist city novels. She currently researches narrative architecture, the connection between architecture and writing, as well as anti-canonical building structures of the 20th century. From 2012 to 2018 she held the position of Assistant Professor at the Institute of Architectural Theory, Art History and Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Graz. Prior to that she taught American Literature and Cultural Studies at the Department of American Studies, Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. She has been managing editor of Graz Architecture Magazine (GAM) since 2012.

Alexander Grasser is an architect, designer and scientist who teaches and researches in the fields of digital architecture, collaborative objects, and adaptive architecture. The focus of his work is the automation as well as use of industry robots in architecture and contemporary architectural theory. In addition to his research activities, he has lectured on computer-aided design methods and design exercises in Innsbruck, Graz, and Vienna. He worked at Graft (Berlin), SPAN (Vienna), and CoopHimmelb(l)au (Vienna). He has been university assistant at the Institute of Architecture and Media since 2019.

Tobias Gruber studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and at the ETSAV in Valencia. He has worked for Volker Giencke, Pezo von Ellrichshausen (Chile), and Léonwohlhage (Berlin), and was a member of the editorial team at ARCH+. Since September 2018, he has been university assistant at the Institute of Design and Building Typology and teaches architectural design. In his research activities, he focuses on small-scale apartments.

Georg Hansemann studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and has been project assistant at the Institute of Structural Design since 2015. His research activities focus on architectural visualization, 3D modelling, model building with milling, plan generation, and product design. In 2015, he started working on the research project “COEBRO – Additive Fabrication of Concrete Elements by Robots”, focusing on robotics, programming, plant development, and application development. The project was successfully completed in 2019 and now forms the basis of his PhD thesis. He is currently researching reinforcing concepts for additive manufacturing with concrete, potential applications for the new technology in the building industry as well as graded foamed concrete.

Waltraud Indrist has, since 2018, been university assistant at the Institute of Architectural Theory, Art History and Cultural Studies and associate lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna as well as at the University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz. She studied architecture at the University of Innsbruck and University of Montpellier. In 2015, she was part of the editorial team at architecture journal ARCH+ Zeitschrift für Architektur; she is also co-editor of the publication Entwerfen Erforschen – Der ›performative turn‹ im Architekturstudium (2016) (Researching Designs: The “Performative Turn” in Architecture Studies). Her research activities include work on architectural theory and history of the 20th and 21st centuries, social and media theory as well as architectural sociology and national socialism

Julian Jauk has been university project assistant at the Institute of Architecture and Media since March 2020. Currently, he is working on his dissertation which will be based on his research as part of the SFB project “Advanced Computational Design”, focusing on a resource-efficient implementation of complex geometrical forms. He studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and, in his diploma thesis, worked on a kinetic and adaptive architectural design, exhibited at events such as Ars Electronica 2017. He also works in the fields of architecture and art as well as audio and video production on a freelance basis.

Anousheh Kehar has been an university project assistant at the Institute of Contemporary Art since 2017 and she is currently working on the research project “Curatorial Design: A Place Between”. After completing a master’s degree in architecture and a bachelor’s degree in art and architectural history at the University of Houston, she is now PhD researcher at Vienna University of Technology. Her research focuses on the spatial constructs of decolonial and anti-imperial considerations of diverse and specific political, social, economic, and legal connections.

Büsra Köroglu has been university assistant at the Institute of Spatial Design since March 2020. She studied architecture at Vienna University of Technology. After completing her studies, she worked at the following architectural practices: Tabanlioglu Architects (Istanbul), PLOV Architekten, Roger Baumeister Architekten (both in Vienna), Enzmann and Fischer Architekten (Zurich).

Gerald Kozicz has, since 2019, been project manager of FWF Austrian Science Fund’s project “Digitalisierung des Kulturerbes von Chamba” (Digitalization of Chamba’s Cultural Heritage). After completing a degree in architecture, he wrote his PhD thesis titled Die Sonne als Entwurfsparameter für eine nachhaltige Architektur im Kontext der sino-asiatischen Stadt (The Sun as Design Parameter for Sustainable Architecture in the Context of a Sino-Asian City). Since 2005, he has project-managed several FWF projects on Indo-Tibetan architecture. The current project aims to comprehensively document and digitalize the cultural heritage of the Chamba district in today’s Himachal Pradesh (India). His most recent publications include: “Embedded in Living Tradition: The Gaurishankar Shrine of Jagatsukh” (2019) and “The Old Temple of Basgo” (2019).

Carina Kurz has been university assistant at the Institute of Architecture Technology since 2019. She studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and at the Tokyo University of Science. After completing her degree, she worked in various architectural practices in Graz as well as at Chiba Manabu Architects, Tokyo, in 2018. Her research focuses on Japanese spatial theories and their relevance for design.

Stefan Leitner has been project employee at the Institute of Structural Design since 2018. He completed his degree in civil engineering in 2017, writing his thesis on the calculation of a thin-walled, doubly curved shell construction in textile concrete. He is currently involved in the research project “DDMaS”, working on the non-linear analysis of masonry structures. He is also writing his dissertation entitled Nichtlineare Bemessung von Mauerwerk am 3D Gesamtgebäudemodell (Non-Linear Measurement of Masonry using a 3D Whole-Building Model). In addition to his work at the university, he is involved in all technical aspects of structural planning at the Leitner Company Group.

Toni Levak has been university assistant at the Institute of Architecture Technology since 2018. He studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and is currently working on his dissertation titled BIM im Entwurfsprozess und die Architekturproduktion jenseits des Entwerfens; Low-Tech-Digitalisierung: Dialektische Verfahren als Prozessoptimierungsmodelle (BIM in the Design Process and the Production of Architecture Beyond Design; Low-Tech Digitalization: Dialectic Methods as Process Optimization Models). He has worked at various architectural practices such as Hubert Rieß and Szyszkowitz-Kowalski + Partner ZT GmbH. His research work focuses on new construction and joining techniques as well as on the move towards social sustainability in the construction process.

Wolfgang List has been senior lecturer at the Institute of Construction and Design Principles since december, 2020. In 2012, he founded the Vienna-based architectural and design practice mostlikely together with Maik Perfahl and Mark Neuner. His most recent publications include 4.3. – 23.3. Team Wien (2017) and DEMOLISHED MODIFIED ENDANGERED (2018). He has given talks and taught at Escuela Taller in Bogota/Columbia, the New Design University in St. Pölten, Vienna University of Technology, and Tongji University in Shanghai and he has been university assistant at the KOEN, TU graz, from 2016 until 2020. His PhD thesis is titled “Entwerfen am Modell – Über die Korrelation expliziter und impliziter Eigenschaften von Arbeitsmodellen” (Designing on the Model - on the Correlation Between Explicit and Implicit Characteristics of Working Models).

Lisa Obermayer has been university assistant at the Institute of Construction and Design Principles since 2019. She worked at several general planning and architectural practices in Graz and Vienna, both during her architecture degree at Graz University of Technology and after graduation. Furthermore, she was involved in event organization for numerous exhibitions and projects in the architecture, culture, and trade fair sectors and has many years of experience in both the artistic and technical sides of conception development, planning, and implementation. Examples of her teaching experience include work in the field of art education at Vienna Design Week and as a workshop leader at Happy Lab Wien.

Radostina Radulova-Stahmer has been university assistant at the Institute of Urbanism since 2017. Her PhD investigates smart cities and the spatial impacts of urban technologies. She studied architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid. Between 2013 and 2017, she was teaching fellow and research associate at the Institute of Design and Urbanism at Leibniz University Hannover. She has worked in international offices such as Atelier Jean Nouvel (Paris) and Koopx (Shanghai) and, since 2010, has managed STUDIOD3R, Studio for Design, Research and Reflexive Realities.

Matthias Raudaschl is senior scientist at the Institute of Architecture Technology. He studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and, in 2020, he completed his PhD with the dissertation titled Klettbeton – Analyse und Herstellungsmethoden verbindungsfähiger Betonstrukturen am Vorbild der Klettverbindung (Hook-and-Loop Concrete – Analysis and Production Methods for Connectable Concrete Structures Modelled on Hook-and-Loop Connections). He works at various architectural practices such as Riegler Riewe Architekten. His recent publications include the paper “Hook-and-Loop fastener – application for the technical building equipment” (2019), the result of research project “Entwicklung von Klett-Befestigungssystemen für die Technische Gebäudeausrüstung (Klett-TGA)” (Hook-and-Loop Fastener Application for Technical Building Equipment). His research and teaching activities focus on the field of civil engineering with a specialization in connection techniques, in particular hook-and-loop fastenings.

Marcella Saade graduated as an Environmental Engineer in 2010, in Brazil. She obtained her MSc in Civil Engineering in 2013, and her PhD in Civil Engineering in 2017. During her PhD, she acted as a visiting researcher at the Working Group Sustainable Construction at TU Graz. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory in Life Cycle Assessment and Circular Economy of the University of Sherbrooke, in Canada, from 2018 to 2020. Marcella holds a tenure-track position at the Institute of Structural Design of Graz University of Technology since April. The focus of Marcella’s work is on life cycle inventory generation and dynamic modelling of carbon cycles in the built environment.

Iveta Šarmanová studied civil engineering at Brno University of Technology and at Bauhaus University in Weimar. She has worked in the offices Vladimír Fišer (Brno, Czech Republic) and Petschnigg ZT GmbH. In her research, she currently focuses on steel beam constructions and on the development of bridges. Since 2019, she has been university assistant at the Institute of Structural Design and is working on her PhD thesis on the topic of “CO2-optimierter Stahlbetonleichtbau für Hochbauten” (CO2-Optimized Lightweight Reinforced Concrete for High-Rise Structures).

Robert Schmid has been project assistant at the Institute of Structural Design since 2016. He studied architecture at Graz University of Technology and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. In research and teaching he specializes in additive manufacturing methods in the field of concrete 3D printing. After the research project COEBRO (FFG - Austrian Research Promotion Agency) was successfully completed, he began working on further developments and applications of this new technology in his dissertation “coebro[façade]”.

Jörg Schröder has been university assistant at the Institute of Architecture Technology since September 2019. He studied architecture in Wuppertal, Aachen, and Berlin, graduating from Aachen University of Applied Sciences and Weissensee Academy of Art Berlin. He works for architectural practices in Germany and the Netherlands, such as Herman Hertzberger’s Architectuurstudio HH in Amsterdam. Between 2008 and 2018, he researched and taught at Dresden University of Technology, working at the chair for architectural theory and architectural criticism as well as the chair for spatial design and design teaching. His particular architectural and research interests are anthropological topics and questions in the field of architecture and design. He has released publications on these topics and his design work has been awarded numerous prizes.

Eva Schwab is university assistant at the Institute of Urbanism. The focus of her work lies on the politics of public space, its production, and its usage. She studied landscape architecture in Vienna and Barcelona and completed her PhD in 2015 with a dissertation on spatial justice. In 2018, her book Spatial Justice and Informal Settlements was published by Emerald.

Adam Sebestyen has been university assistant at the Institute for Architecture and Media since March 2020. He studied mass communication and English at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota (USA) as well as architecture at Vienna University of Technology and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. His research focuses on parametric and generative design, rapid prototyping, and machine learning in the digital design process. His works have been exhibited in Venice, Vienna, and Milan.

Marisol Vidal studied architecture at the ETSAV in Valencia (Spain). Since 2003, she has taught and researched at the Institute of Architecture Technology and, in 2008, she completed her PhD with a dissertation on design strategies and exposed concrete in contemporary Spanish architecture. In her research, she focuses on questions of material, materialization, and materiality of architecture, concentrating on the use of exposed concrete. She has undertaken numerous teaching assignments at different universities, including ETSAB Barcelona, USM Valparaíso, CAUP Tongji, Politecnico di Milano, University of Houston, Aalto-Yliopisto, and ITU Istanbul. She has been internationalization coordinator at the Faculty of Architecture since 2010.

Christiane Wermke has been university assistant at the Institute of Buildings and Energy since 2015. She studied architecture in Potsdam and at the Mackintosh School of Architecture (Glasgow). She is involved in numerous international projects in Germany, England, and France, with a particular focus on housing. In her research, she focuses primarily on adaptive building skins and the energy efficiency of buildings.
