NIKE/BLUETRACK – Nachhaltige Interdisziplinarität bei Komplexen Einsätzen unter Tage

Military operations in subsurface service structures represent a big challange for Armed Forces. Complex underground operations are characterized by a lack of lighting and ventilation. A hybrid military attack in such underground structures quickly can bring the operational forces to their performance limits. Hence, it is vital to know the exact positioning of the own armed forces to avoid situations where soldiers open fire on their own (blue-on-blue).

  • analysis of existing technologies based on a complex scenario in an urban transport hub
  • development of algorithms and procedures for precise positioning for easy to carry navigation solutions in a GNSS-denied environment (partly task of the Institute of Geodesy, Working Group of Navigation)
  • visualization of the positioning data in a Proof-of-concept within the Subsurface Operations Mission Tool (SOMT)

"Zentrum am Berg" of the Montan University Leoben will serve as the testing environment.
