Sonja Wogrin presented the results of a study on Austria’s future storage and flexibility requirements.

On 2 September 2025, TU Graz hosted the discussion event “Storage and Flexibility Needs in the Future Power System”. The event was organized by WdF – Österreich | Wirtschaftsforum der Führungskräfte Steiermark, represented by Dipl.-Ing. Christian Kehrer.

Our head of institute, Univ.-Prof. Sonja Wogrin, presented the results of a study conducted by Ass.Prof. Robert Gaugl at the Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation at TU Graz. The study, carried out in collaboration with Austrian Power Grid AG (APG), Photovoltaic Austria, and d-fine Austria, provides a comprehensive analysis of Austria’s future flexibility and storage needs. It demonstrates how electricity can be reliably supplied at the right time and place to best support the energy transition.

Additional insights were provided by Gerhard Christiner (CTO, APG) and Herbert Paierl (Chairman, PV Austria). A panel discussion with audience questions concluded the event.

Many thanks to all participants, speakers, and organizers for making this a productive and insightful evening!
