On June 17, 2025, the CIDEAL project was launched with a successful kick-off at TU Graz. The consortium of academia and industry aims to develop solutions for the green transformation through hands-on training and new technologies.
With the official kick-off meeting, the CIDEAL project – Clean Industry Development Education and Advanced Learning – entered a new phase of industry-oriented qualification for a sustainable future. The event brought together all 29 participating experts and representatives from academia and industry for the first time to discuss project goals, working structures, and key thematic areas.
CIDEAL focuses on transferring scientific knowledge into practice. The project centers around three key topics:
- Circular Economy (e.g., waste utilization, plastic recycling)
- Industrial Carbon Cycles (carbon capture, bio-based value chains)
- Energy system analysis and optimization for implementing industrial decarbonization strategies
The project runs from June 2025 to November 2026 and is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). It is coordinated by TU Graz Life Long Learning. On the academic side, TU Graz (Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation, Institute of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology) and several chairs from Montanuniversität Leoben are involved. Eight renowned industry partners contribute their practical expertise and vision for the future.
The Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation (IEE) – represented by Prof. Sonja Wogrin and Ass. Prof. Robert Gaugl – contributes significantly to the development of sustainable solutions through its expertise in energy system analysis and optimization.
