Students took the opportunity to get to know the Faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering at TU Graz during the Graz Electrical Engineering Days (GEED).

Several school classes from general secondary schools and technical colleges visited the faculty and explored different stations. At our station, guided by Simon Malacek, they gained fascinating insights into the challenges of the energy transition: How can electricity be provided at low cost while ensuring a high level of security of supply?

In the interactive energy planner, the students made their own investment decisions to cover electricity demand – while keeping both costs and CO₂ emissions as low as possible. It quickly became clear that even in a simplified model, finding the optimal solution is far from easy. These are exactly the kinds of questions at the heart of our research in energy system modeling and optimization.

Our head of institute, Univ.-Prof. Sonja Wogrin, also joined a panel discussion where students could ask general questions about studying at TU Graz. Topics included study programs, university life, and future opportunities.

Many thanks to all students for their great interest and curiosity – the energy transition needs fresh ideas!
