Robert Gaugl was invited to the CEBC 2026 conference to present an overview of electricity markets, tariffs, and supporting schemes for flexibility provision.

At the 8th Central European Biomass Conference CEBC 2026, Robert Gaugl delivered an overview presentation on electricity markets, tariffs, and supporting schemes for flexibility provision. His contribution was part of Parallel Session 13, titled “Automated Control Systems for Flexibility Provision for the Heating and Electricity Sectors”, held on Thursday, 22 January, from 14:00 to 15:30.

Chaired by Markus Gölles (BEST, Austria), the session was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how biomass power plants can participate in energy and flexibility markets. Particular emphasis was placed on the technical, economic, and regulatory requirements needed to enable such participation.

Following an introductory presentation on the technical potential of flexible bioenergy technologies and systems, including dynamic electricity and grid tariffs, several practical examples and business models were presented. Contributions on variable feed-in tariffs and the monetization of bioenergy flexibility in balancing markets illustrated concrete pathways for valorizing flexibility. The session concluded with an interactive discussion addressing next steps, necessary developments, and the evolving legal and regulatory framework for flexible bioenergy integration.
