At this year’s European Open Energy Modelling Workshop, Simon Malacek contributed a lightning talk.
He presented a Python tool to estimate spatial-temporal heat demand using open data. His talk showcased methodological approaches to regional heating demand estimation, aiming to support sustainable energy planning through transparent and reproducible modelling.
The Workshop took place at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, bringing together researchers and practitioners committed to open, inclusive, and impactful energy modelling. With a strong focus on collaboration with low- and middle-income countries, the workshop invited participants to share tools, methods, and experiences that broaden participation in energy system analysis.
The workshop was rounded off with a social activity exploring the Stockholm Royal Seaport, one of Europe’s most ambitious urban sustainability projects. This guided walk through the district highlighted the intersection of modelling, urban development, and climate action in practice.
