The protection of people and the safe operation of electrical systems is a technical and ethical foundation of our discipline. In an increasingly complex network world - characterised by new system components, operating modes and standardisation requirements - there is a need for a well-founded scientific examination of issues relating to earthing, electromagnetic environmental compatibility and protection technology. Our work ranges from numerical field calculations and probabilistic risk assessments to practical implementation concepts. Our focus is not only on compliance with existing standards, but also on their further development with regard to future requirements. This area is becoming increasingly relevant, particularly in the context of social expectations regarding sustainability and safety.
