Summary of the workshop will be published here soon.
On 17. September 2021, the Data Champions met virtually in Gather.town. Data Champion Jakob Harden provided comprehensive information about different license types and how own work can be licensed. Both Jakob and Data Steward Hermann Schranzhofer answered numerous questions from the participants about licensing. The discussion illuminated various aspects of the licensing topic and contributed to a better understanding of how to deal with licenses. Subsequently, topics for the event in October were collected and also those that play an important role for the future of the Data Champions community. There was a strong focus on practical orientation in this context, in order to bring research data management to life.
The next meeting will be held in presence at in October 2021. The "Data Champions" community at TU Graz is being established as part of the research field of action in the "Digital TU Graz" project.
The first Data Champions event in presence took place at the beginning of August at HS II with snacks and drinks. In contrast to the previous events, this time there were no ready-made topics or guest speakers, but a feedback round on the programme and the opportunity for participants to discuss any points of interest in the round.
The participants described the Data Champions programme as a great experience and would also like to see the group expanded. This group is good for finding synergies and developing new ideas. The Data Champions discussed how their future role could look like (community platform, etc). In general, training and awareness building in this area is important to the group (what is important and available) and starting RDM training at PhD students level seems to be a good idea for all. There was also a desire to have guest speakers from industry to see how they deal with the RDM issue. Participants also noted that it is great to have a dedicated data steward for this topic as a contact person. It was a great experience for everyone to finally see each other again in real space and everyone hopes that this can be repeated soon.
The next meeting will be held in GatherTown in September 2021. The "Data Champions" community at TU Graz is being established as part of the research field of action in the "Digital TU Graz" project.
Machine Learning and Artifical Intelligence were the topics covered at the Data Champions event on 9.7.2021. Two guest speakers from the Know Center, Bernhard Geiger and Matthias Böhm, gave the participants exciting and comprehensive insights into the world of application-oriented Machine Learning. As at the previous event, one of the champions, Andeas Heinz, presented his work in this area. It was an exploration of the use of Artifical Intelligence in Thermal Engineering.
The next meeting will be held in presence at Alte Technk (HS II) in August 2021. The "Data Champions" community at TU Graz is being established as part of the research field of action in the "Digital TU Graz" project.
On 27.05.2021, the third Data Champions meeting was held in Gather.town, where the Data Champions could also bring interested colleagues to introduce them to RDM topics, network and raise awareness of good RDM practice. Data Steward Sarah Stryeck presented CyVerse Austria for data management and data analytics, highlighted its advantages and explained the tool on concrete use cases. Data Champion Jakob Harden introduced the participants to Git by giving them an introduction to version control systems (VCS), Git as well as Gitlab at TU Graz with instructions on how to manage and host projects in Gitlab. Moreover, Data Steward Alexander Gruber presented the newest features of the TU Graz Repository (invenioRDM). Like last time, there was also the opportunity to network and ask questions in relaxed "Connect & Talk" sessions which make a valuable contribution to building the RDM community @ TU Graz.
The next meeting will be held in Gather.town in July 2021. The "Data Champion" community at TU Graz is being established as part of the research field of action in the "Digital TU Graz" project.
The virtual science brunch of the Data Champions community took place on 23.04.2021 in the interactive video conferencing tool Gather.town. At the 2nd meeting of the Data Champions, Data Steward Hermann Schranzhofer gave an interesting insight into the topics of metadata and the TU Graz Repository (invenioRDM) by sharing valuable information and experiences with the participants. Between the presentations, the Data Champions had the opportunity to exchange ideas with each other and the Data Stewards in "Connect & Talk" sessions, to contribute impulses and to ask questions about RDM tools and services. At the end of the event, the virtual room in Gather.town was handed over to the Data Champions community, providing a meeting point to share knowledge and experiences on RDM topics.
The next network meeting will be held in Gather.town at the end of May 2021. The "Data Champion" community at TU Graz is being established as part of the research field of action in the "Digital TU Graz" project.
On March 11, 2021, the kick-off event of the new "Data Champion" community at TU Graz took place with eleven researchers. TU Graz is establishing this network to promote good research data management practice across all disciplines and to better meet the needs of researchers in this area. The Data Champions acquire know-how on tools and services in the field of Research Data Management (RDM), network at regular meetings and exchange experiences among themselves. Subsequently, they share their discipline-specific RDM knowledge and advise other researchers in their field.
At the kick-off, participants got to know each other, received an overview of the "Data Champion" program, and contributed their own topics for design. Additional monthly meetings are planned through September 2021. The "Data Champion" community at TU Graz is being established as part of the research field of action in the "Digital TU Graz" project.
