Course Description

Analog Integrated Circuits 1 is a first semester 5 ECTS course of CUAS Master's programme in Integrated Systems and Circuits Design which provides a solid grounding in analogue integrated circuits, starting with modelling and technology aspects, followed by analysis and design of basic analogue building blocks.

The course is organised as synchronous on-site lectures with asynchronous online lecture stream. The on-site lecture streams are recorded and made available on Moodle for further study by registered students. The lecture includes a mixture of theory sessions, in-class problem sets, problem assignments and homework through practical design projects using CAD environment and 65nm CMOS technology.

Learning Objectives

After finishing the course, students

  • will be able to analyse basic electronic circuits using large-signal and small-signal models with hand calculations and SPICE simulators (such as Cadence Spectre).
  • will have a detailed understanding of function and be able to design basic transistor circuits such as switches, current mirrors, single transistor amplifiers and differential amplifiers.
  • will be able to design and optimise amplifiers and comparators for a given large and small signal circuit performance.
  • formulate important non-idealities of analogue integrated circuits such as offset, common-mode rejection, power-supply rejection.
  • understand specific layout and technology related effects such as mismatch, crosstalk, ESD and how to improve them.
