Loans & Interlibrary Loans

The majority of our books and journals are freely accessible. Detailed information on the location, availability and loan period of an item can be found in the search portal LibrarySearch. You need a Library card to borrow items. Loans are free of charge.

 What We Offer

  • Text book collection: The textbook collection includes current introductory literature from various subject areas. As textbooks are in high demand, the Library provides several copies of each title. Many titles are also available as e-books.
  • Course reserves: Lecturers can have the literature required for a course or literature they recommend on a specific topic set up as physical and virtual course reserves.
  • Standards & Regulations

 Loan Period

Books can be borrowed for 30 days. You can reserve books via the LibrarySearch.

Special loan periods

  • Books from the textbook collection can be borrowed for 60 days.
  • Books from the reading room (main library) as well as encyclopaedias and reference works have special loan periods – please ask at the circulation desk on site.
  • Journals can only be borrowed over the weekend.
  • Standards and rarities are available at the circulation desk of the respective library location and can only be used on site.
  • Books from the course reserves (main Library) can only be used on site and cannot be borrowed.

Longer loan periods apply to diploma and dissertation students (please ask at the circulation desk on site).

 Extend Your Loan Period

For items that are not reserved, the loan period can be extended by up to 6 months. If the loan period is exceeded, overdue fees will be charged. Please renew you loans in time online in your LibrarySearch Account or at the circulation desk of the respective location.

 Return

Returns can be made during opening hours at the circulation desk or using the book return boxes at all three locations.

 24h-Pick-up Service

With the Library's 24-hour pick-up service, you can pick up books from the main Library and subject Libraries around the clock at the pick-up station at Technikerstraße 4. When the book is ready for you, you will receive a notification by email and can open the corresponding box with your Library card or TU Graz card.

 Interlibrary Loans

The inter-library loan service can obtain journal articles and books that are not available in the TU Graz Library collection. Orders can be placed using the online form in LibrarySearch (login required). Please note that interlibrary loan orders are subject to a fee.

 Libraries Styria

With your account, you can register for and use other Styrian university libraries. The TU Graz card is also valid as a library card there. In TUGRAZonline, you can activate the library of your choice under the menu item ‘Libraries Styria’.
