Spasm detection in gait trainer based on force measurements

Gait trainer are used for impaired patients mainly with neurological disease. The gait trainers are used in sub-acute phase f.e. after stroke. The specific gait trainer has various sensors available to detect the gait phase of the patient and the related reaction forces. The requirement is to provide and improve a functional embedded software solution to detect spasm of the patient during walking therapy. Walking test can be done on site at BTL Österreich GmbH in Graz and the data can be recorded. Clinical data my be used as well to improve the functionality. Different approaches for signal processing are applicable.

Thesis Type:

  • Master Thesis

Goal and Tasks:

The goal of this work is to present a model to detect spasm. A secondary goal is to detect irregular behaviour of the patient during walking therapy. The output should be graded, so that the limits specified by the user/therapists can be adjusted.
