Results "Supporting Structures in Design" WS21/22

The focus of the seminar "Supporting Structures in Design" in the winter semester 2021/2022 was "Earthen Building - From the Earth to the Load-Bearing Structure." Students designed with the course instructors Iveta Šarmanová and Rubi Coronado Galindo a modular load-bearing structure made of earth, a building material with an almost zero impact on the environment. The structural design was based on material properties, construction techniques and environmental balance. The students of the elective subject developed a modular structure made of clay in (possible) combination with sustainable building materials. At the interim presentation at the beginning of December, guest critic Loïc Bernet from "lblp-architects" supported the course with his valuable expertise and gave tips on earthen construction. At the final presentation at the end of January, guest critic Lorenz Kastner from the company “Lehm Ton Erde” was invited to give the students an insight into the execution of earthen structures.
