Biography
Simon Malacek studied physics at Graz University of Technology and graduated with distinction with a Master's degree in Technical Physics in 2023. During his exchange semester at KU Leuven, he discovered his fascination for renewable energy systems. Since November 2023 he has been working as a university project assistant and PhD student at the Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation (IEE) at TU Graz. His research interests include renewable energies, potentials through sector coupling, and stochastic optimisation methods.

Projects

So-called "anergy networks" are based on a system approach that can contribute significantly to solving the major challenges of the energy transition. In the project, the knowledge on the topic is processed based on existing scientific work and realized projects and expanded in a targeted manner with the help of detailed analyses of an implemented case study.

Within the scope of this project, two variants (‘standard’ = expansion without transmission and ‘co-managed’ = expansion including transmission) for a possible expansion of transmission capacities in Carinthia's electricity grid are implemented in the optimisation model that has already been created. Selected scenarios from the preliminary project are subsequently solved for both variants and the results obtained are analysed comparatively.
