Green Meeting

The event complies with the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings.

The mandatory criteria that have been fulfilled include:

  • Arrival without private cars
Participants are encouraged to use public transport to travel to the 19th Symposium on Energy Innovation. Details on traveling by public transport, Park & Ride facilities, and information on flight compensation can be found on the homepage under Contact | Travel. The respective information was also included in the mailings.

  • Communication of climate-friendly travel options and accessibility
For travel to and from the 19th Symposium on Energy Innovation, the use of public transport is recommended. Details on travel by train, bus, tram, and suburban rail can be found under Contact | Travel. All conference rooms at TU Graz are wheelchair accessible.
    Accessibility statement TU Graz
Barrier-free studying and working (also applies to the symposium as it is held entirely on the Inffeldgasse campus)
    Disability representative information

  • Information and guidance on waste prevention and proper waste separation at the venue
Clearly labeled waste bins are provided for proper and separate disposal of waste.
Further information on waste prevention and separation, which also applies to the symposium, can be found in the guidelines of the Climate-Neutral TU Graz initiative.

  • Avoidance or reuse of badges for name tags
Plastic badges are avoided; instead, cardboard name tags with reusable holders are used, which can be collected or returned at the end of the event.

  • For newly purchased electronic devices, only those with Energy Star or Ecolabel certification
No new electronic devices will be purchased for the 19th Symposium on Energy Innovation. Laptops and projectors will be provided by the Central IT Services (ZID) of TU Graz.

  • Economical use of printed materials
Printed materials are used very sparingly. No posters or flyers are produced; promotion is done via email and digital event calendars. The symposium program is provided to participants in digital form. For the first time, no printed proceedings (previously approx. 500 pages and 600 copies) will be produced, which represents a significant reduction. Instead, the abstract volume will be available online for download, replacing the printed version in line with our sustainable practice from recent symposia.

  • Use of totally chlorine-free or 100% recycled paper
Only very few printed materials are produced. For all necessary prints, 100% chlorine-free or recycled paper is used whenever technically possible.

  • Using certified printing companies (Ecolabel) and labeling printed materials
Since neither the program nor the proceedings are printed, this point does not apply.

  • Selection of certified accommodation providers
Here you can find a selection of accommodations.

  • Compliance with catering criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings
Catering is arranged in line with the ecolabel’s catering criteria, focusing on regional and seasonal food and beverages. Additionally, the following is provided:
    • At least one vegetarian or vegan dish
    • Free tap water available

  • No single-use beverage packaging as giveaways
At the 19th Symposium on Energy Innovation, single-use beverage packaging is avoided. Instead, reusable glass containers and glasses are used instead of plastic cups.

  • Communication of certification and contact person for Green Meetings
The certification is promoted on both the homepage and in the program. The contact person for Green Meetings is:
    Udo Bachhiesl
    bachhieslnoSpam@tugraz.at

  • Collection of feedback
After the 19th Symposium on Energy Innovation, participants will be asked to provide feedback on the event in the form of an online questionnaire.
