Gründungsgarage Volume 10 - Workshop Day 2

At the second Workshop Day of the Gründungsgarage Vol. 10 the mentors Michael Freidl and Jörg Wukonig provided important content on the topics of intellectual property and patent law as well as online- and growth marketing. The teams were visibly enthusiastic about the interactive contributions.

If the teams of the Gründungsgarage play LEGO, they don’t do it only for pleasure. In the first session of the day they were provided with a high class Design Thinking Workshop. In the afternoon the teams had the task of designing their business model in a compact manner with a Business Model Canvas.

The Gründungsgarage starts with 10 new and motivated teams in the 10th round. Once again it will be an exciting volume with great business ideas.


Unternehmensführung und Organisation: Grundwissen für Wirtschaftsingenieure in Studium und Praxis

Das Lehr- und Lernbuch richtet sich sowohl an ingenieurwissenschaftliche Studierende und Lehrende als auch an Praktiker, die an der Schnittstelle Wirtschaft und Technik arbeiten. Es vermittelt auf kompakte Weise die Grundlagen des Managements und der Führung aus systemischer Perspektive und legt dabei den Fokus auf die Anwendung in Industrie und im industrienahen Dienstleistungssektor.

Das Autorenteam präsentiert mit diesem Werk ein Lehr- und Lernbuch, dass sich einerseits an ingenieurwissenschaftliche Studierende und Lehrende und andererseits an Praktiker, die an der Schnittstelle Wirtschaft und Technik arbeiten, richtet. Es vermittelt kompakt und übersichtlich die Grundlagen von Führung und Management aus systematischer Perspektive und bringt so dem Leser den Themenkomplex „Unternehmungsführung und Organisation“ nahe.

Die Themenauswahl ist auf Bedürfnisse von Wirtschaftsingenieuren in Industrie und industrienahen Dienstleistungen zugeschnitten. Die Inhalte werden durch ein durchgehendes didaktisches Konzept mit Lernzielen, grafischem Leitsystem, Randnotizen, zahlreichen Abbildungen, Praxisbeispielen und Lernkontrollfragen vermittelt.

Gastvortrag - Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Suter

Wir durften, am 19.März 2018 Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Suter zu einen Gastvortrag in der LV Prozessmanagement begrüßen. Dr. Suter lehrte in einer spannenden Lehrveranstaltung vor allem die Wertschöpfungsmaschine. Außerdem wurden praktische Ansätze gezeigt, wie sich eine Geschäftsstrategie tatsächlich umsetzen lässt.

Die Studentinnen und Studenten erhielten in der Vorlesung außerdem einen Leitfaden, wie sie die Strukturen und Prozesse aus der Strategie ableiten und optimieren können.

 Zur Person: Andreas Suter hat als Unternehmensleiter wie als Unternehmensberater zahlreiche Neuausrichtungen von Unternehmen vorangetrieben. Als Professor für Unternehmensführung und Organisation an der Technischen Universität in Graz hat er gemeinsam mit seinen Mitarbeitern den Ansatz und die Prinzipien der "Wertschöpfungsmaschine" entwickelt. Heute ist Andreas Suter Partner des international tätigen Managementdienstleisters GroNova.

What we do

We organise the St. Gallen Symposium and create relevant debates between Leaders of Today and Leaders of Tomorrow.

Who we are

We are 35 students from the University of St. Gallen, working on an honorary basis and supported by over 350 partners.

Short Description

The St. Gallen Symposium is a global gathering of Leaders of Today and Leaders of Tomorrow that takes place annually in May at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. It is organised by the International Students’ Committee (ISC), a team of students from the university. Our goal is to provide a setting for relevant debates between Leaders of Today and Tomorrow on topics of management, politics and civil society.

To this end, our student team builds and maintains lasting relationships with hundreds of leaders from around the globe. We do our best to choose the right people for the right topics, and bring them together in an environment that encourages debates, friction and a healthy exchange amongst our participants.

The intermediate presentation marks the halftime of the Gründungsgarage Vol. 9.
Thereby all teams have 3 minutes to present their results and were able to prove how much they developed their business idea the last 10 weeks.
To provide the teams with diversity, Gründungsgarage always seeks for new locations. This time we selected the AulaX space in Graz to offer our teams a new stage in an inspiring environment.

Course Information Management

30 students participate our course Information Management. Together with Dr. Josef Kolbitsch, Head of Computing Center at University of Mannheim, Harald Wipfler presents the foundations of information management and IT-business alignment, IT service management, digitalization as well as IT sourcing and cloud computing. In addition, Mr. Manfred Etlinger (Microsoft Austria) and Mr. Ulfried Paier (Raiffeisen Rechenzentrum) give practical insights in digitalization projects and the realization and organization of a state-of-the-art computing and data centre.

Gründungsgarage Vol. IX - Workshop Day 1

On the first workshop day the teams got an insight in subjects like business modeling and design thinking by two high-profile speakers. In addition to a theory unit, the teams also had the task of presenting their business model in a compact manner with a Business Model Canvas. 


Gründungsgarage Vol. IX - Kick Off

The Gründungsgarage made a great start into the new semester and will again support 10 teams in the implementation of their business idea. In the kickoff, the teams got to know their mentors and were already able to set their first target agreements.


Gründungsgarage Vol. IX - Hearing

For the ninth time, the Gründungsgarage offers innovative heads the opportunity to present their business ideas. From over 20 applicants the jury selected 10 grandiose teams which will be prepared for their formation for one semester.


Recent conference contributions

Stefan Vorbach und Michael Rachinger participated and presented at the 2nd New Business Model (NBM) conference, organized by the University of Graz. Harald Wipfler participated and presented at the 2017 R&D Management Conference at KU Leuven, Belgium.


International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning (ICL)

On 28th of September Prof. Vorbach was at the International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning (ICL) in Budapest. He had a lecture about the Gründungsgarage.

The internet was also just an idea. What is your idea? You are already developing an innovative business idea and would like to take the next step towards implementation? Welcome to the “Gründungsgarage” - we were looking for you! In the course “Gründungsgarage” we work together: Students and scientists with start-up ideas are supported by experienced mentors and work together in interdisciplinary teams for one semester to develop their own business models. By the way, for this course you receive 2SSt./2ECTS for your academic program - so you will profit more than once. Applications for the “Gründungsgarage” Vol. IX are now possible. The application deadline for Vol. IX is Sunday, October 15, 2017.

Gründungsgarage Vol. VIII - Final Event

On the 29th of June the final event of the course "Gründungsgarage" will take place at the "Junge Wirtschaft" building in Graz. Our 11 student teams will pitch their start-up projects in front of a selected group of entrepreneurs, potential investors and leaders from the worlds of business, politics and society. The broad amount of ideas ranges from laser technologies over innovative shoes to several apps and platforms. These start-up projects were developed over the last semester during the course "Gründungsgarage" and we all are excited about the results.

 Prof. Stefan Vorbach offers a new lecture on strategic management: The course aims to deepen the knowledge on strategic management tools, techniques and concepts, with a focus on technology-based firms.

The 26th International Association for Management of Technology (IAMOT) Conference (http://www.iamot2017.org/) was held in Vienna from May 14-18. Univ.-Prof. Stefan Vorbach contributed to the conference with a discussion of the topic "Technology disruption as a driver for business model innovation". Harald Wipfler gave a presentation on "Technology management activities to avoid technological lock-ins".

The seminar General Management, Simulation deals with selected topics in the domain of General Management using computer based simulations. You will have the opportunity to practice your theoretical knowledge within the field of management and to experience different practical challenges. The topics covered include leadership and decision making, sustainable management and strategic innovation management.
