KERMIT

Kidney Disease Sweat Sensor Patch for Early Diagnosis and Remote Monitoring

Microelectronics is a key enabler for non-invasive mass screening technologies. Using microelectronics highly accurate point-of-care testing becomes possible which considerably improves the diagnosis and treatment of numerous illnesses. In the project KERMIT wearable devices are developed that measure biomarkers in the human sweat which carry information about underlying health conditions. In particular chronic kidney disease (CKD) will be targeted, because it affects over 100 million people in Europe alone and can go unnoticed until severe symptoms appear. To this end highly accurate sensor front-ends and biomedical mixed-signal circuits will be developed to enable early diagnosis and treatment.
