Locked-In Syndrome: Ending Isolation with Brain-Computer-Interfaces

People with locked-in syndrome (LIS) are enormously restricted in their communication. Implantable brain-computer interfaces that decode speech in real time from brain signals should help free users from isolation.
 


IGI goes with Intel

Among others, Wolfgang Maas from our Institute for Theoretical Computer Science demonstrated in cooperated with Intel how to save energy sgnificantly with neuromorphic hardware. This technology is up to sixteen times more energy-efficient for large DeepLearning networks than other AI systems.
 


Mixed Reality: Snapchat supports our new working group

California-based Snap Inc. will be researching new technologies in the field of mixed reality with TU Graz over the next six years. The new working group "Mixed Reality" will develop visionary software methods in the field of camera technology, and explore new approaches to visual information processing at the interface of digital and physical reality.

The programme supports experienced female scientists with the aim to achieve the necessary qualification to apply for professorships within Austria or abroad. For arts-based female researchers there is the possibility of applying for the Elise Richter PEEK.

Each project has the opportunity to receive up to 200,000 euros in funding. An external advisory board evaluates the submitted projects. Projects can be submitted at any time. The focus this time is on the area of continuing education.

Doctoral Examinations

Info: Candidates can take the final examination (presentation and oral exam) online via video conference call (e.g. Webex) if all parties involved agree. The requirement of publicity can be ensured as follows: Candidates may distribute the meeting link; requests to participate in the video exam can also be sent by e-mail to the chairperson of the exam commission.
