ODIMAST – Optimization of connection points in terms of capacity and traffic safety

Interchange ramp terminals of the Austrian motorway and major highway network are grouped in typical interchange types and classified by capacity and safety. A mix of two methods is used for this cluster exercise. Statistical data mining of cross sectional counts and microscopic traffic flow analysis with VISSIM and the safety supplement SSAM are applied to perform an impact analysis. As a result, a sheet with the major characteristics describes the findings for standard applications. Finally, the major characteristics of interchange ramp terminals determining its capacity are described and applied in an example.
