ICG AND CGV MERGE

As per Januarary 2025, the new Institute of Visual Computing (IVC) at the Faculty of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering at Graz University of Technology, Austria, has been founded as of January 1, 2025.

The new institute on Visual Computing is a merger of the former well-known Institutes of Computer Graphics and Vision (ICG) and Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualization (CGV).

Our new institute will comprise around 100 researchers working on all aspects of visual computing, including computer graphics and geometry processing, computer vision and image processing, visualization and visual analytics, augmented and virtual reality, machine and deep learning, inverse problems and medical imaging.

The new institute is committed to excellence in basic research, but industry-related research also plays an important role. The establishment of the new institute with a critical mass of researchers will also further boost existing cooperations with the research centers Fraunhofer Austria and VRVis located at TU Graz, and of course we are looking forward to new collaborations.

Welcome to the CGV Institute at the TU Graz

The Institute of Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualisation (CGV) was founded in 2005 as part of the faculty of Computer Science. Our research and teaching focuses on areas of geometry modeling and processing, digital libraries and research fields related to these, namely CAGD (Computer Aided Geometric Design), Virtual reality, and Cultural Heritage.

Our research facilities include an immersive projection environment referred to as DAVE, a multi touch interaction table, a handheld scanner, a 3D printer, and more.

Our research projects, many in cooperation with industry and international academic research groups, are funded by the European Union and Austrian funding agencies FWF and FFG. The Institute has a close cooperation with Fraunhofer Austria. Research results so far have been published in over 300 articles in international journals, such as CAGD and conferences, workshops and symposia, such as SIGGRAPH and Eurographics amongst others. More about the research areas here.

Opportunities - We are offering student jobs and thesis topics in numerous areas and often have open positions available. If you would like to visit the CGV some time to discuss a possible opportuinity, please feel free to get in touch with us.
