Atomic Force Microscopy

The Asylum Research Cypher VRS Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) is an ultra-high-performance AFM with unmatched imaging resolution and speed, which allows to achieve routinely atomic resolution with scan speeds all the way to video rate (up to 600 lines/second). This instrument features exceptional environmental control, including closed cells for measurement in gas atmosphere and the possibility of liquid perfusion. Our setup also includes a temperature control stage in the range of 0-120°C.

Available SPM imaging modes: Contact mode; DART PFM; Dual AC; Dual AC Resonance Tracking (DART); Electric force microscopy (EFM); Force curves; Force mapping mode (force volume); Force modulation; Frequency modulation; Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM); Lateral force mode (LFM); Loss tangent imaging; Magnetic force microscopy (MFM); Nanolithography and nanomanipulation; Phase imaging; Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM); Switching spectroscopy PFM; Tapping mode (AC mode); Tapping mode with digital Q control; Vector PFM, AM-FM Viscoelastic Mapping Mode; Contact Resonance Viscoelastic Mapping Mode.

SPM modes available at video-rate speeds: Tapping mode topography and phase contrast, Contact mode topography.

Gas sorption analyzer

Micromeritics 3flex is one of the most advanced high resolution, high throughput physisorption and chemisorption analyzer, providing adsorption, desorption, isotherm, pore size distribution, to characterize and validate microporous and mesoporous materials: MOFs, zeolites, activated carbons, and other products. 3flex provides ultra-stable pressure and temperature control over a long time and finely tunable gas dosing steps.

The machine has three micropore-capable ports and twelve gas inlets, permitting highly versatile physisorption studies. Several models are available: BET, Langmuir, t-plot, Freundlich, BJH, DFT, NLDFT, Horvath-Kawazoe, Dollimore-Heal, etc.

The samples that can be analyzed with this instrument are powders, monoliths, pellets, flakes, thin films, with the possibility to degas the samples in situ. Air-sensitive materials can be measured thanks to dedicated tube-sealing systems.

Moreover, the instrument is able to evaluate vapor sorption of several fluids (water, hydrocarbons) with a dedicated accessory, and can be expanded for chemisorption analysis of a wide range of catalysts for research and industrial purposes.

Raman Microscope

The Thermo Scientific™ DXR™ 2 Raman Microscope offers high performance confocal Raman microscopy in a robust, integrated design. Our setup is equipped with two different excitation lasers (532 nm and 785 nm), a motorized stage with Atlµs mapping (1 µm step size), and 3 objectives of 10x, 50x and 50x with long working distance to allow for measurements in liquid. We can measure powders, films and liquids and perform chemical maps with a typical spatial resolution of 1 µm. Additionally, we can perform polarized Raman measurements.

X-Ray Diffractometer

Our Rigaku SmartLab is one of the newest and most novel high-resolution X-ray diffractometers currently available on the market. The system features the PhotonMax high-flux 9 kW rotating anode X-ray source coupled with a 1D-semiconductor detector D/teX Ultra 250 that supports 0D and 1D measurement modes.

The system incorporates a high-resolution θ/θ closed loop goniometer drive system with an available in-plane diffraction arm. The system’s new Cross-Beam-Optics (CBO) family feature fully automated switchable reflection and transmission optics (CBO-Auto).

Our setup allows the measurement of thin films, powders, liquids and textiles. The available modes are: Flat-plate powders (Bragg-Brentano and Transmission Modes), Capillaries, Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction, In-plane X-ray Diffraction and X-Ray Reflectivity.
