Travel Information (new location Bad Hofgastein)

The 2024 workshop takes place in Bad Hofgastein, Austria.  Bad Hofgastein is located ca. 100 km South of Salzburg. The village is well connected by train with Salzburg via Bischofshofen.

The train station Bad Hofgastein is located ca. 3 km north of the village center. There runs a bus to the village center a few minutes after arrival of every train, and taxis are also available at the train station.

The lectures will be given in the Kongress Center Bad Hofgastein, Tauernplatz 1, 5630 Bad Hofgastein.

How to get to Bad Hofgastein

By public transport:

The best connection to Bad Hofgastein is from Salzburg. From the airport you can reach Salzburg Hauptbahnhof by bus no. 2 (runs every 20 min., duration ca. 20 min). From there a direct train runs to Bad Hofgastein every 2 hours, see https://fahrplan.salzburg-verkehr.at/).

Train tickets must be booked in advance in Austria. Further, we strongly recommend to make a reservation for a seat in the selected trains.

Arrival in Bad Hofgastein. At Monday, there are train connections from Salzburg Hbf – Bad Hofgastein ca. every 2 hours (12:12, 14:16, 16:12, 17:16, 18:12, 20:12, 21:12) with a travel time of 1:20 hours. Most of these trains are ICE to be used with reservation (ticket price ca. 33,80 EUR Salzburg-Bad Hofgastein). See the information at https://fahrplan.oebb.at.

Departure from Bad Hofgastein. At Friday, there are trains every 2 hours from 6:30 til the evening. After the end of the workshop (at 12:00), you can reach the train at 12:30 by taxi on time.

  • Please check the Austrian Railway Oebb homepage for connections from Salzburg Hbf (the main train station Hauptbahnhof) to Bad Hofgastein.
  • From Airport Salzburg  to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof you can take O-bus no.2; see the https://fahrplan.salzburg-verkehr.at/.
  • For arrivals from the South via Graz, there are trains via Bischofshofen.

We strongly recommend to buy the train ticket for/in Austria BEFORE entering the train, because you will be asked for a high penalty if you have no ticket. Seat reservation in the trains is also highly recommended.

By car:

For the highways in Austria, you need to buy a toll sticker, which must be attached/paid in advance (available at any petrol station, at the border, and online). See informations at https://www.asfinag.at/en/toll/vignette/. The 10-day toll sticker costs 9,90 EUR (price 2023).

For the streets to Bad Hofgastein, be prepared to ride in high mountains with a lot of snow in February.

From the East: the shortest way from the direction Wien (Vienna) to Bad Hofgastein is via Salzburg-Bischofshofen. Alternatively you can also ride via Wiener Neustadt - Leoben - Liezen - Bischofshofen- Tamsweg - St. Michael.

From the North: via Salzburg - Bischofshofen - Bad Hofgastein.
