At the IBioSys Institute, we indulge in both fundamental and applied research in bioorganic chemistry, materials science and engineering. By blending curiosity with creativity, we host an interdisciplinary hub for innovation, bridging molecular design and advanced processing technologies to develop bio-inspired solutions for pressing medical, industrial and environmental challenges. Based at Graz University of Technology, we work at the intersection of Advanced Materials Science and Human Biotechnology Fields of Expertise (FoE) and are proud partners in the regional academic cooperations with NAWI Graz (University Graz) and BioTechMed (Medical University of Graz). As a researcher-driven institute with a strong commitment to education we strive to immerse students in the exciting and ever-evolving field of biobased systems technologies. With a strong emphasis on -indepth theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience, we help our students to develop the necesseary skills and confidence to address real-world challenges directly within our research labs. Our amalgamation of active research, teaching, as well as numerous collaborations with academic and industrial partners fosters an engineeing environment for perpetual knowledge and technology transfer on a local and international level.
Glycogroup has been established in 1989. Over the years, we have been interested and engaged in a variety of projects involving the synthesis and biological evaluation of glycomimetics including iminosugars, carbasugars, C-glycosyl type glycoconjugates as well as various types of diagnostic compounds and probes.
Since 2005, we have successfully fostered and managed Glycogroup as a joined venture taking advantage of the synergism of our individual scientific interests and our passion for glycoscience.
Glycogroup is dedicated to high quality research in timely areas of glycosciences. Target-oriented synthetic approaches are driven by our curiosity for the biochemical activities of our glycomimetics. Nonetheless, several projects have also contributed to organic and carbohydrate methodology and mechanistic considerations.
In 2020, Glycogroup has joined the new institute for Chemistry and Technology of Biobased Systems and a newly established chair for ‘Glycochemistry’ was implemented to intensify and foster research and teaching in this significant and fast-growing field of science.
Our international collaborations include a long list of preeminent scientists in their areas who have kindly been adding their expertise to our projects.
