Isothermal calorimetry is used to monitor the heat evolved from a sample as a result of the reactions occurring in the system during a certain period of time. One of the main applications of this technique is to study the hydration of cementitious materials. Heat flux and heat of hydration data allow for the determination of reaction rates, optimization of mixing designs, formulation of admixtures, and estimation of mechanical properties.
