X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) is used for the analysis of major, minor and trace elements from F to Am in solid samples, as well as for the measurement of dissolved (major and minor) components in aqueous solutions. This non-destructive method allows the routine analysis of rocks, minerals, soils and waters by using e.g., glass disks, pressed powder pellets, whole-rock specimens and fluids.
