The Cerchar Abrasivity index test is a laboratory method for determining the abrasivity of rocks. A steel pin with defined tip geometry and hardness of HC 54-56 is scratched over the rock surface for 10 mm under constant load. The diameter of the resulting pin tip wear is measured and correlated to rock abrasivity.
