Elettra – Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A., the Graz University of Technology, the University Maribor and the University Primorska established a consortium to build and run a novel high-end SAXS beamline at Elettra 2.0, the IV generation Diffraction Limited Storage Ring under construction in Triest (Italy). The new synchrotron machine is scheduled for commissioning in the second half of 2026. See www.elettra.eu for more information.
In the framework of Elettra 2.0, a new high-brilliance SAXS beamline (HB-SAXS) is being built. It will be based on an in-vacuum undulator (IVU) and will cover a photon energy range from 4.5 to 17 keV with micrometric spot size and photon flux of >1012 phot/s. The scientific activity of the HB-SAXS beamline will extend the classical applications of the existing high-flux SAXS beamline, and allow experiments in which high brilliance, small spot sizes and coherence are essential, such as, e.g., picosecond pump-probe experiments, 3D SAXS tensor tomography, X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy, pytchography and coherent SAXS imaging.
The HB-SAXS beamline partners pursue to build an international, dynamic, and heterogenous scientific team capable of meeting future scientific challenges and promoting high-profile research, taking advantage of the characteristics of the new beamline. We expect scientists to be motivated, collaborative, capable of supporting user research at the Elettra 2.0 facility's beamline, and proactive in conducting their own research programs.
We are looking for scientists with a PhD and at least 2-years postdoctoral experience in SAXS/SANS and/or hard X-ray optics and instrumentation. Experience as beamline user and/or beamline scientist are also very much appreciated. Familiarity with research projects preparation and management and/or with industrial-oriented research programs will be beneficial. A collaborative attitude and previous experience in an international working environment are essential.
If you are willing to receive more information on the job positions that will be soon available, please send your expression of interest to eoiforsaxs@elettra.eu. It will be a pleasure to meet you, provide you with useful information to understand the SAXS project, and keep you informed about the opening of calls for applications.
