Landscaping in Hydraulic Engineering

The students are able to understand the wrong-headed developments in hydraulic engineering of the last decades, they learn how natural rivers works and how one can plan and build modern hydraulic constructions concerning ecology and landscape aesthetics.

Content:

  • Ecological basics for modern planning of hydraulic structures
  • landscape elements and aesthetics
  • spatial/architectonic implementation of hydraulic structures in the landscape.

Therefore the following main chapters are dealt in the course:

  • Basic legal aspects
  • water
  • sediments and morphology (geology, river morphology)
  • classification of rivers and scaling aspects
  • types of natural waters
  • vegetation
  • human influence in river systems
  • biological engineering methodologies (e.g. wood and living plants)
  • planning and concepts
  • architecture in hydraulic engineering
