Teaching at the Institute of Structural Analysis

Structural analysis provides the basis for predicting the behavior and safety of buildings. In particular, deformations and stresses of structures which are subjected to a certain loading are derived. Our courses for undergraduate students focus on the analysis of beams and trusses. Conventional methods are taught which allow to perform the required calculations by hand.
These methods are ideally suited to sharpen the general understanding of the physical behavior of structures. Moreover, they convey the fundamental background for computational analysis which is in the focus of our courses of the master's programme. The theory and FEM-based computation of shells, plates and three-dimensional bodies are particularly discussed.
